It’s okay to do things just for you.

One of the many things that quarantine made me realize was the importance of doing things just for yourself. I know, that seems like a given, but it can be easy to forget.

I was working for the good of my company, cleaning for the good of myself and my roommates, and feeding my dog for his own good, but I wasn’t taking time to do things specifically for me—and it got to me.

In early August—about 4 months into quarantine—I had a bit of a meltdown. I realized one of the main reasons for that was that I wasn’t doing anything just for me. I found that interesting, because I didn’t even realize that I was missing that “me time.”

I learned that it’s important to do things for myself, even if I feel that I don’t need it. Making time for regular self-care activities is much more important than I thought. My lack of self-care snuck up on me during quarantine. It took my subconscious and my body telling me for me to truly understand its importance.

Now, I’m making time for things I like and am making sure to give myself that “me time” my body and mind are craving. For me, that includes running, shopping, and puppy cuddling. Can’t get much better than that.
