My feelings going into my last week at work

My last full week of COWGIRL is over and done and I’m going into a half-week—my last three days. Wednesday, I’ll be returning my Mac (sigh, I’ll miss it) and other office supplies. I’m not sure what to expect during this time, but I’m excited—not only for the new position, but to experience the transition because it’s a first for me.

Despite my excitement, new jobs always come with some worries. I thought I’d write down what I’m most looking forward to as well as what I’m worried about regarding my new position.

Things I’m excited about

  • Working with and getting to know my new team

  • Working in an office for the first time since March

  • Entering the cosmetics industry

  • Having a more flexible schedule (pretty cool: I have Wednesday’s off)

  • Spending more time on my freelance clients (because I have an extra day off, I can use that time to freelance!)

Things I’m worried about

  • Making consistent money freelancing

  • Learning the ropes at a new place

  • Learning new skills (What if I can’t do it?)

  • Not knowing exactly what the new job will be like

I deal with imposter syndrome sometimes. I know the work I’ve produced in the past is good, but what if I can’t do it again? What if they thought I was skilled when they hired me, but it turns out that I can’t perform? Deep down I know that I can do the job and do it well, but I’m battling insecurity. Starting a new job comes with so many conflicting emotions and nerves that I think my worries are just stemming from that.

It’s still kind of crazy to me that I’m making a job switch. One, I’ve been at COWGIRL so long that it’s wild to imagine working somewhere else, and two, since COWGIRL was my first full-time job, so this is my first adult job transition. I think returning my supplies and saying good-bye to my boss is when it will definitely feel real to me.

Wish me luck on my last few days!
