A blog is still a blog…
…even if you don’t post it on social media.
When I started my last blog, Taking My Twenties, I shared every post on my personal social media. It was only later that I realized that social media posting was limiting my creativity and adding unwanted pressure to my writing; I was afraid of what others would think. More time began to pass between each post, and eventually, I stopped posting altogether. I don’t want to do that this time around.
I’ve been really enjoying blogging here on my website because I’m writing for me. Obviously, if someone reads it, that would be nice, but I’m fine with it if I’m the only one. Posting my blogs on social media made me feel like they all had to mean something—be both entertaining and informative. Leaving them on my website allows me to write just for me—removing the pressure of a thousand eyeballs scanning every word—and helps me unlock more creativity. It’s almost like journaling, which I haven’t been doing nearly enough of lately.
That’s what I want when I write: free-flowing, natural words. They don’t always have to convey an important message; sometimes, writing is just for the pleasure of writing.
