I got a puppy during quarantine

Yes…I know it was crazy and impulsive, but I’m so happy I did it.

It’s International Dog Day, so I decided to tell this story. #DoItForThePuppies

My boyfriend has always wanted a basset hound, so I’d been searching Craigslist for a while just for fun. All the basset puppies we saw just weren’t affordable for us.

I reached out to one poster in particular to inquire about the price of his litter, and it was far lower than we had ever seen. After some debate, we hopped in the car, went to his house, and picked out a puppy. It was probably four hours from the time we saw the post to the puppy being in our house.

It took us forever to decide what to name him. My boyfriend is a bull rider and I’m an admirer of the western lifestyle, so originally, we wanted something like Marshall or Sheriff. It was my boyfriend that first mentioned the name we finally chose: Barney.

Never did I think I would be getting a dog this year, especially after the start of quarantine. When I thought about it, though, I realized that there probably couldn’t be a better time. I’m working from home for the foreseeable future, so I’m able to care for him and give him love all day long. Plus, puppy time is a great way to unplug during my breaks.

Not to mention that this has been quite a stressful year. Having a sweet little ball of love around is huge for my mental health.

It’s been a few months now since we got Barney, and it 100% was the right choice. A pandemic may not sound like the best time to get a dog, but it was definitely a good move for us.
