What these analytics really mean

It can seem like social media insights offer infinite analytics, and navigating them can be confusing, especially if digital marketing isn’t your forte. However, analytics are key to your social success, and shouldn’t be overlooked.

I thought I’d share some of the most talked about social stats to help you make more sense of your insights pages. The better you understand your analytics, the better you can use them to grow your business!

Impressions

The number of times your content was displayed on a screen. If one person views your content multiple times, each view will be counted.

Reach

The number of people who actually saw your post. One of my professor always explained this to us as “how many sets of eyeballs saw your content.”

Engagement

The number of times people interacted with your post. The definition can vary based on social platform. On Instagram, engagement is the total amount of likes, comments, saves, and shares.

Engagement Rate

Engagement divided by the number of followers you have times 100 (expressed as a percent).

FOR EXAMPLE: If you have 20,000 followers and your post got 1,000 engagements, your engagement rate is 5%.

(1,000 engagements/20,000 followers) X 100 = 5% engagement
