How I found my most productive hours
So, I’m still in the process here, but I’ve made major strides over the last few weeks.
Previously, for my freelance projects, I tended to complete work whenever I felt motivated, which obviously varied quite a bit. That created a strange and unorganized weekly schedule. I always felt like I was missing something and had to catch up.
For the past two weeks, I’ve been getting up early before I head to BaeBlu to work on my freelance projects, and it’s been great! I’ve felt so productive, and it’s really not that bad to get up before sunrise (especially when there’s caffeine involved).
Before, I would go to BaeBlu and come home to freelance work I had to get done. By the end of the day, I just want to relax, not keep my nose to the grindstone. Now, I come home having already completed some freelance work for the day, allowing me to spend time with Dawson and Barney free of worry.
It’s funny; since trying this morning routine, I remembered that I’ve done the same thing in the past. Running after work didn’t fit with my schedule, so I switched to the morning. Back in school, I discovered that I was much more alert and productive when I completed homework before I caught the bus than I was at night. I wasn’t able to keep up those schedules, but I’m not sure I was aware at the time that mornings are when I’m most productive. Now that I’m more aware, I’d like to see how well this works for me and my career goals.
Being just two weeks old, my morning strategy may change. However, I plan to stick to it for a while longer and reevaluate its effectiveness. If it turns out not to work for me, at least I’ll know I tried.
